January 2009 New Year's and resolutions are nearly synonymous. For God's people New Year's can be an opportunity for renewed COMMITMENT. The Lord has blessed our congregation mightily and certainly has many blessings in store for us this year. He has gathered all of us together with our variety of talents and gifts and entrusts us with His ministry. With that comes the call to COMMITMENT, and a commitment to excellence for our Lord. Where does your church, the ministry we carry out together at Son Life, rate on your commitment scale? Perhaps a bit ironic, the ministry of our church is all about the Lord's complete commitment to us. We just celebrated His birth among us, and soon we will walk with Him to the cross and rejoice at His empty tomb. Jesus committed Himself to us completely. He made us His number one priority. As a result we live in, with, and under the grace of God knowing that we have been given eternal life. Now is the time for us to renew our commitment to the Lord and His work. It is not about making resolutions, which we all know rarely ever are fulfilled. It is about making a commitment to the Lord and His work with our time and abilities, with our talents and our dollars. That commitment will be evidenced by our worship attendance, our participation in the ministries and projects of our church and in what kind of support there will be to undergird our mission and ministry here. A call to commitment is no stranger to us. We have heard it through our jobs. We have heard it in the kids’ extra-curricular activities. We hear it and follow through and that is a good thing. But to put the commitment to your church in perspective, perhaps we need to consider that while your job pays you, it is Jesus who has paid for you with His life. While it is important for your kids to grow civically or athletically, it is growing spiritually in the Lord that gives them the firm foundation for their life and being Let this New Year’s serve as a call to a deeper commitment to the Lord and His Church. He has saved us. He has blessed us. He has called us to be His own. This year let us commit our best to Jesus and represent Him in the most excellent way through the ministry of our church A blessed New Year, Pastor John
